David Cassidy in 1971 with Shirley Eder (A Must Listen)

On Tuesday November 21st we lost David Cassidy. I can’t say I was a fan.  At the time, I was submersed in rock and roll.  Beatles, Stones, Zeppelin, Hendrix et All.  I certainly understood his appeal to his legions of young fans.  I never interviewed David Cassidy.  Shirley Eder did.  Shirley Eder died at age 85 in May of 2005.  She was an iconic ‘star watcher’ with credentials as long as the third grade.  She interviewed everybody, and I do mean everybody.  My producer at WJR was Kevin Collard.  Kevin was a tireless worker. He has achieved hundreds of hours of my programs and many more from Shirley Eder.

I found some background on Shirley Eder on Variety.com.  Her celebrity column ran in the Detroit Free Press and in syndication from the early 1960s until 1993. After retiring from the Free Press, she wrote for other newspapers, women’s and celebrity magazines. Shirley was a regular on television and radio, including entertainment segments on Detroit’s WJBK-TV and WJR-AM radio. She also was an entertainment reporter for WXYZ-TV in the 80s and 90s, covering celebrity news as well as the Oscars and other award shows.

Kevin provided this interview and I found it fascinating.  Have a listen.  Enjoy!
