It’s National Sandwich Day – Hot Pocket is My Choice

Jim Gaffigan’s classic “Hoooot Pocket” (Hit Play)

National Sandwich Day is observed annually on November 3. The sandwich is believed to be the namesake of John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich, following the claim that he was the inventor of the sandwich.  This day honors one of America’s most popular lunch items.

My “Classic Conversation” With Glenn Frey

Hi everybody and welcome to the Ken Calvert “Classic Conversations” Podcast.

I’ve come across thousands of hours of interviews that I’ve had stored in my basement for over 35 years. Cassettes, DATs and Reel to Reel.

I’m guessing that right now I have about 600 repaired edited and cleaned up about as well as they can be.

With the Eagles playing the LCA on Friday, October 27, 2017 – I thought I’d go back and feature an interview I did with Glenn Frey in 2012.

Glenn and I were friends going back 40 years. His passing was a genuine punch in the gut. “Say it ain’t so?” Glenn passed in January 2016.

The Eagles now feature Glenn’s son Deacon. It’s shocking how much Deacon looks and sounds like Dad. He played his first gig with the Eagles July 16, 2017.

So, here’s my interview with Glenn Frey talking about a lot of things. The purpose of this interview was to talk about a gift to his parents in the form of an album called “After Hours.” A great collection of “Old School Vocal Pop”. Enjoy and come back and visit with soon.

If You Like Classic Rock – You’ll Like My Classic Conversations

This past spring my basement flooded.  For the 7th time!  I had no choice but to remove everything from the basement to a friend’s warehouse.  It turned out to be a blessing.  I found a treasure trove of radio artifacts, including hundreds of cassette tapes and DATs (Digital Audio Tapes).  I had no idea what I would find on those tapes, let alone the quality.  The cassettes are decent and most of the DATs are very good.  So far, I have downloaded over 500 interviews ranging from Milton Berle to Iggy Pop.

Please come back to and I will be featuring fresh circa interviews regularly.  You’ll hear George Carlin, Paul Stanley, Burton Cummings, Glenn Frey, Barret Strong, Gary Owens, Richard Dreyfuss, Ed McMahon, Davey Jones, Chris Farley, Roger Ebert, Mark Fuhrman, Milton Berle, Iggy Pop and my shot at singing with the Howling Diablos featuring Jimmy McCarty.  Here’s just a quick sample.
